in the wake of trembling shadows, i left mother earth behind to lay me down, and close my eyes to hymns sung by choirs, lullabies to a body worn out by a tired mind. i shut my eyelids to hear the crows, the vultures sing, step by step forward, lost in familiar serpentine patterns within the labyrinth set in cold obsidian stone. i hear the voices of statues that blacked out the sun and left her children all alone.
